AI Fellow Internship

AI Fellows Austria is a new, highly selective fellowship connecting a coalition of Austria's leading AI-forward companies with top technical students. Each Fellow team works on one real, executive-sponsored AI challenge — not a shadow project, not busywork, but something the host company's leadership actually needs solved.

This isn't an internship. It's an invitation to spend a summer building something real, alongside founders and senior engineers, with a cohort of peers doing the same at other companies across the ecosystem.

Your specific host company is confirmed as part of matching — but every placement is a funded, AI-forward Austrian scale-up solving a genuine business problem, not a made-up training exercise.

• Join a team of 2-3 Fellows exploring a new product opportunity in your host company’s field
• Run customer discovery: interview real users, test hypotheses, and let what you learn shape what you build
• Design, prototype, and iterate on an AI-powered product, going from first idea to something customers can use
• Work directly with an executive sponsor and a dedicated company mentor, not just a supervisor
• Build toward a real decision at the end: based on what you’ve validated, will the company take your product forward?
• Present your results at a national Demo Day, in front of founders, investors, and press

Why this isn’t a normal internship

• Real ownership. You decide what to build and how. Your sponsor opens doors and challenges your thinking, but the direction is yours to find.
• Real validation. Your work is judged by what customers say and do, not by a checklist.
• A cohort, not a desk. A joint kickoff, founder talks, peer project reviews, and pitch training connect you to Fellows at every participating company, not just your own team.
• An alumni network that lasts. You leave with more than a line on your CV. You join a growing network of Austria’s future AI operators and founders.

Who we’re looking for

• Currently enrolled in a top technical program in Computer Science, Data Science, AI/ML, or a related engineering field
• Strong technical fundamentals and genuine curiosity about applied AI, not just interest in using chatbots
• A strong entrepreneurial spirit: you’re excited to talk to customers, test ideas, and change course when the evidence says so
• Comfortable with ambiguity, real stakeholders, and a tight timeline
• Available full-time for the entire 10-week program (mid-June to end of August 2027)
• Fluent in English

How to apply

Submit your CV and a short note on a real problem you'd want to solve. Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis; host-company matching is completed in December–January, ahead of the mid-June start.
